NCHA Smart Ward technology wins international award!
Australian IT company Outcomex has won the 2025 Cisco ANZ Partner Innovation Challenge for Smart Ward technology advancing patient health and safety.
Outcomex, a key collaborator on the NCHA Smart Ward project, has been recognised with the 2025 Cisco ANZ Partner Innovation Challenge for its award-winning Smart Ward technology advancing patient health and safety.
The NCHA Smart Ward developed by the National Centre for Healthy Ageing (NCHA), a partnership between Peninsula Health and Monash University, exemplifies how thoughtfully applied technology can empower healthcare professionals and enhance the experience of care.
Located at Peninsula Health’s The Mornington Centre, this collaborative project has created one of Australia’s most connected Smart Ward environments, enabling clinicians to access real-time data on patient movement, falls risk, and activity levels, all within a secure, privacy-by-design architecture. Integrating smart sensors and connected systems it is helping to create safer, more responsive environments that enhance independence and quality of life for residents.
NCHA Director, Professor Velandai Srikanth says the integrated technology created by Outcomex and used on the Smart Ward is visionary.
“Congratulations to the Outcomex team on this prestigious global recognition of their visionary thinking in helping clinical staff to enhance patient health and safety using blue tooth technology,” says Professor Srikanth.

“We are proud to have collaborated with Outcomex on the Smart Ward project with their 365mesh HealthDeck and CareTrack solutions and look forward to embracing new ways to use technology to improve health outcomes.”
NCHA’s Smart Ward Research Lead, Associate Professor Christina Ekegren said the Smart Ward technology will give clinicians valuable continuous real time data to help inform decision making.
“This innovative system will help with issues such as preventing adverse events, hospital acquired complications, improving staff and patient workflows, and improving patient mobility,” Associate Professor Ekegren said.
About the technology
The Outcomex 2025 winning 365mesh HealthDeck and CareTrack solution revolutionises patient and aged care through a customisable, AI-enhanced IoT platform. By combining location intelligence and behavioural analytics with real-time sensor data accurate to the centimetre, the system detects and predicts patterns of movement, facilitating earlier intervention, safer care, and higher-value clinical research. AI models interpret mobility and activity trends, enabling clinicians to anticipate risk events such as falls or extended inactivity, while automation ensures that alerts are triggered instantly to care teams.
