Award winners support food relief at NGV

L-R: Dr Alex Chung, Dr Sue Kleve, Ms Stacey Holden at the NGV Feast to Feed gala

Congratulations Dr Alex Chung, Ms Stacey Holden and Dr Sue Kleve, from the Department of Nutrition Dietetics and Food, School of Clinical Sciences on winning the 2026 Sub-Faculty of Clinical and Molecular Medicine Award for Programs that Enhance Learning! Their innovative and winning project, the Community and Public Health Nutrition and Food Systems Program bridges the gap between classroom and career, guiding Master of Nutrition and Dietetics students through a 10-week work-integrated learning placement.

This winning program involved Sue, Alex and Stacey working in partnership with industry partners and students to design each placement experience. Placement partners are located across Victoria and the Northern Territory, including community health, local government, not-for-profits and community controlled organisations. Students then work in teams to lead and deliver authentic projects that address current community and public health nutrition issues in their placement organisation. Their achievements are celebrated in a poster symposium, where students present their work to their peers and placement partners. The partnership approach and the work undertaken by students mirror real-world practice, preparing students for their future careers. Students have published and presented findings from their placement projects at local and national conferences, and some have gone on to gain employment with their placement host organisation.

To celebrate, Sue, Alex and Stacey used the award prize to attend the Feast to Feed gala at the NGV, supporting the vital work of Alex Makes Meals. It was a beautiful full-circle moment, celebrating a program that highlights the importance of supporting members of the community who may be having difficulty accessing food by directly providing nutritious meals in a dignified way.
