Monash Interdisciplinary Research Academy of Medical AI (MIRAMA) brings together human insight, community understanding and lived experience with cutting‑edge artificial intelligence, data science and intelligent systems.

Jointly designed by the faculties of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences (MNHS), Information Technology (IT), Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (PPS), and Science, these exciting multidisciplinary Honours projects will set you up to drive meaningful change in healthcare and ensure our health system continues to evolve.

All projects are co-designed and supported by experts from multiple faculties with links to MAVERIC (the Monash AdVanced Environment for Research and Intelligent Computing) and the broader Monash research ecosystem.

MIRAMA Honours Projects

All MIRAMA Honours projects are co‑designed and supported by experts from one or multiple faculties. This booklet will give you an overview of all projects on offer for Medical Science students and the eligibility requirements.

Eligible programs

To be eligible for one of the MIRAMA Honours projects, you will need to meet the entry criteria for one of the relevant eligible Honours programs. Click your Honours program below to find out more.

Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Honours)

The Biomedical Science Honours program is for high-achieving students who have completed the Bachelor of Biomedical Science or a comparable degree course.

Bachelor of Health Sciences (Honours)

If you have graduated from a Monash Bachelor of Health Sciences or Bachelor of Public Health this honours year is designed for you. You also might be eligible if you come from another discipline.

Bachelor of Medical Science (Honours)

This is a prestigious program in medical research for high-achieving students who are currently undertaking, or have completed, a relevant undergraduate medical degree.

Bachelor of Computer Science (Honours)

This Honours program will help you develop high-level research skills that future employers will value or you can develop further with a master's degree or PhD.

Bachelor of Computer Science Advanced (Honours)

As a high-achieving student with an interest in research, the Bachelor of Computer Science Advanced (Honours) will enhance your research, programming and analytical skills.

Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours)

If you are enrolled in the Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) program, you can choose to undertake a MIRAMA Honours project.

Scholarship

We are offering scholarships to support and encourage student participation in these projects. Covering one year of full‐time study, the scholarship is awarded based on academic achievement and is designed to help you focus on your research and make a meaningful contribution to the project.

MIRAMA is open to students who are eligible to commence one of the participating Monash Honours programs:

Students must meet the admission requirements of their relevant Honours program and select an eligible MIRAMA research project.
Entry requirements depend on the Honours program through which you are applying. As a general guide, the participating programs are intended for high-achieving students, and many require an average of at least 70% in relevant undergraduate or final-year studies.
For example, Biomedical Science Honours applicants from Monash generally require an average of 70% or higher across at least 24 credit points of third-year study, including relevant biomedical science units. Health Sciences Honours applicants generally require a bachelor’s degree in health science or a related discipline, with an average of 70% or higher in the final year. Applicants should check the specific requirements listed for their chosen Honours course.
No - MIRAMA is not a separate Honours degree or stream. You will remain enrolled in your eligible Honours program while completing a MIRAMA research project.
Your project may be interdisciplinary and supported by researchers from several faculties, allowing you to collaborate across medicine, health, information technology, pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences, and science while maintaining the requirements of your home Honours program.
After completing your MIRAMA Honours project, you will graduate through your enrolled Honours program. The research, analytical, computational, and interdisciplinary skills developed through MIRAMA may support pathways into a master’s degree, PhD, further health or medical research, data science, digital health, artificial intelligence, or industry employment.
MIRAMA is designed to prepare students to contribute to the next generation of AI-enabled healthcare research and innovation, bringing together strong disciplinary knowledge with experience working in multidisciplinary research teams.
MIRAMA provides an opportunity to work at the intersection of healthcare, medicine, artificial intelligence, data science, and digital technologies.
Students can choose from more than 40 cross-disciplinary projects addressing areas such as disease prevention, health promotion, diagnostics, therapeutics, precision medicine, healthcare delivery, and health-system innovation. Projects are co-designed and supported by experts from one or more Monash faculties, providing students with valuable experience applying advanced research methods to real-world healthcare challenges.

You need to apply for these through the Scholarships’ office. Students should review the Medicine and Artificial Intelligence Honours Scholarship page on the Monash University website for the latest eligibility and selection information.
The scholarship is valued at up to $6,000 for one year of full-time Honours study, with seven scholarships available. Applicants must be commencing an eligible Honours program, undertaking a MIRAMA project, and have a WAM of at least 70. Selection is based on academic performance, and the scholarship cannot be deferred.

Unfortunately, part-time students cannot participate.
Yes - Students from the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Engineering are welcome to participate in MIRAMA, provided they have a research project that has been approved by the MIRAMA Management Committee.
