A/Prof Ram Nataraja and Monash Children’s Simulation receive national recognition with the Project Innovation Award for 2021

Congratulations to Associate Professor Ram Nataraja and the team at Monash Children’s Simulation and Monash Children’s Hospital International who has been awarded the Project Innovation Award for 2021 for his project, “Simulation-based Educational (SBE) Programme in Myanmar: Improving outcomes for children in the management of intussusception”.
The award from Simulation Australasia is a national recognition award shining a light on a collaborative international project, which used an innovative simulator and faculty development to improve clinical outcomes for children in Myanmar and change the educational culture.
“It is a great honour for Monash Children’s Simulation, Monash Children's Hospital International and our colleagues at Yangon Children's Hospital in Myanmar to be recognised for this prestigious award by the wider simulation community”, A/Prof Nataraja said.
The project was characterised by its collaborative approach in design and implementation leading to a sustainable and enduring program significantly reducing the number of children undergoing an operation for this common condition in Myanmar.
The educational design is also a template for the management of other targeted clinical conditions with low-cost simulators. The preservation of sparse healthcare resources is a powerful indirect benefit as is the collaborative approach for the project.
