Congratulations to Iolanda Miceli on receiving the Emerging Investigator Excellence Award from the American College of Rheumatology, for her research on treatment for inflammatory diseases such as Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE).

Currently, glucocorticoids contribute to a large burden of morbidity in SLE due to their toxic adverse effects. The team, led by Associate Professor Sarah Jones, is working on a novel drug targeting strategy to replace glucocorticoid use in inflammatory diseases such as SLE, and hopes their research will bring treatments for SLE into the 21st century.

"I am beyond thrilled to receive this award. This speaks to the significance of our work and its potential to significantly improve the lives of patients with inflammatory disease", said Iolanda, a MD-PhD candidate in the Jones Lab.

Iolanda will be presenting her research at the American College of Rheumatology Conference's Plenary session in November in Washington DC.
