Monash aims to attract candidates with a track record for excellence, who bring significant benefit to Monash University and the Australian community through their work.
EMERGE @ Monash offers competitive salary packages and relocation support to eligible candidates, who will be employed at Monash on faculty-based teaching and research ongoing contracts.
Candidates are identified and nominated by Monash Faculties or strategic partners.
Specific criteria includes:
- You are an early and mid-career researcher located outside Australia
- You hold a PhD and have progressed your career in research
- You are currently employed in a research related role outside Australia
- You or your immediate family is impacted by recent changes in international research priorities, funding or support.
- You contribute to diversity within your research discipline
The scheme offers competitive salary and research funding packages and comprehensive support for relocation to move to Australia, including family support packages for successful candidates. The scheme also offers start-up support to establish your research, (eg lab set up).
This program is targeted specifically towards researchers whose academic progression may have been affected by changes in international research priorities, funding or support. For example, this may include facing direct threats to academic freedom, censorship, the defunding of specific research fields, loss of employment security or challenges to immigration or residency status, people from the LGBTQ+ community, people who support or represent equity and diversity within their fields.

If you are an Australian living overseas and you meet the criteria above, yes you are eligible. People currently residing in Australia are not eligible.

Monash University has a dedicated team that will support successful candidates with the visa application for themselves and their immediate family, to ensure that the application process is as smooth and fast as possible. Monash University will provide financial support for visa applications for successful candidates and their immediate family.
Yes. For successful candidates, relocation and visa processing financial support is available for immediate family.
Selection process (by nomination only)
1. Candidates are identified and nominated by Monash Faculties or strategic partners.
2. Eligibility is reviewed and confirmed through a due diligence process.
3. Shortlisted candidates are assessed by a panel including senior leaders from the Provost, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Enterprise), and relevant Faculties.*
4. Interviews and reference checks are conducted.
5. Offers are made and relocation support is provided.
*The University is committed to diverse selection panels, targeting at least 40% women and 40% men, and reflecting cultural, linguistic, and gender diversity, while considering structural and workforce limitations. Panels of 3 members should include no more than 2 of the same gender.
