Enabling the next generation to do things better than I would do myself
Pierre asks his students to engage with each other and act authentically.
How do you help students build confidence, not just knowledge?
In my lectures I have unscripted moments during which I make mistakes, but I show them it's okay.
What legacy or ripple effect do you hope to leave behind?
I hope my students and peers realise learning can and should be fun, and that a diverse teaching team is a strength.
What’s the biggest myth about university education you wish more people would rethink?
I've been told "those who can't do teach"...
I hope my students and peers realise learning can and should be fun, and that a diverse teaching team is a strength. ”
What would surprise your younger self most about what you do now?
How much I've grown to love teaching.
What does being a 'Changemaker’ mean to you personally?
I'm not seeking change for the sake of it, but I'm trying to solve problems without limiting my thinking to what's been done. That naturally leads to change.
How would you explain your role to someone who’s never met a university educator?
I enable the next generation to do things better than I would do myself.
How do you tailor your teaching approach to engage and inspire today's students?
I ask students to engage with each other, and I act authentically to encourage them to do the same.
