Monash University is committed to improving health and economic outcomes for Indigenous Australians through culturally informed research and targeted reforms:
- The SIMBA study, led by Dr Ayse Zengin from the School of Clinical Sciences at Monash Health, focuses on improving bone health management for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, addressing inadequacies in osteoporosis screening guidelines and incorporating cultural elements to enhance patient experience.
- A review on autoimmune rheumatic diseases (AIRD) in Indigenous populations, conducted by Monash Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences in collaboration with Australian hospitals, highlights gaps in knowledge and aims to improve health outcomes.
- A study by Professor Ranjan Ray and Dr Sanjesh Kumar from the Department of Economics in the Monash Business School examines the mental health and economic insecurity of Indigenous Australians, emphasising the need for targeted reforms and improved data collection.
