Studies on inequalities faced by underrepresented groups

Research at Monash University is uncovering the effects of racial bias, political rhetoric, and public narratives on marginalized groups, aiming to foster more accurate and inclusive societal understandings:

• A study by the Department of Economics, led by Professor Kaveh Majlesi, published in Nature Human Behaviour, reveals the impact of racial bias and political rhetoric on the unemployment of Asian Americans during the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting challenges in achieving decent work for all.
• The Centre for Youth Policy and Education Practice (CYPEP) published research in the Australian Journal of Social Issues, developing a 'heatmap' of public narratives regarding disadvantaged groups in Australia, emphasising the need to disrupt misleading narratives to better reflect the realities of these groups.
