The role of safety in public transport choices

Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC) PhD student Mohammed Ibrahim's research, published in the Journal of Transport & Health, explores how safety influences transportation choices and the willingness to switch to safer public transport. The study highlights that while safety currently plays a limited role in modal choice, it is more significant for future shifts towards safer public transport.

This presents an opportunity to reduce road injuries through modal shift, but requires policymakers to prioritise improvements in public transport and address demographic variations to encourage this shift.
