Critical issues and reforms needed in FOI culture and practices

Associate Professor Johan Lidberg from the Journalism Department at Monash University led a report examining the culture and practices of Freedom of Information (FOI) in Australia. The report identifies critical issues such as information bottlenecks, inadequate resources, and a lack of commitment to FOI principles, and proposes significant reforms to improve transparency and accountability.

The findings highlight the need for adequate funding, legislative changes, and increased engagement from government ministers, to enhance FOI processes and foster a healthier democratic environment.
