World-first “cybercrime index” ranks countries by cyber threat level
Professor Nigel Phair from the Monash University Faculty of Information Technology co-authored a study that developed the first 'World Cybercrime Index', ranking countries by their cyber threat levels. The research, published in PLOS ONE, aims to provide policymakers with reliable indicators of cybercrime origins and help build cybersecurity capabilities.

The Index, based on a survey of 92 cybercrime experts, ranks 197 countries and highlights key cybercrime hotspots. This initiative is significant in aiding the fight against cybercrime by providing a clearer understanding of its geography and enabling targeted efforts.
