Indigenous health and education
Monash Rural Health has launched several initiatives to improve health outcomes and education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, emphasising cultural safety and partnership:
- The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Framework 2021-2030 was launched on Dja Dja Wurrung country, focusing on cultural safety, health outcomes, and Indigenous learning in curricula.
- Monash medical student Isabel Lee completed an Indigenous health-focused elective with Coomealla Health Aboriginal Corporation, gaining insights into cultural holistic care.
- Monash Rural Health Bendigo supports pathways for First Nations health professionals from kindergarten to careers, including the Teddy Bear Hospital and cultural induction sessions.
- Warragul Regional College Aboriginal students participated in an event at Monash Rural Health to explore careers in rural health. These initiatives align with SDG 3 by promoting good health and well-being, SDG 4 by enhancing quality education, SDG 10 by reducing inequalities, and SDG 17 by fostering partnerships.
