Study reveals gaps in antimicrobial knowledge and planetary health education

Researchers from Monash University's Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, including Dr Angelina Lim and PhD candidate Shahd Alzard, conducted a global study revealing significant gaps in antimicrobial knowledge and planetary health education among undergraduate students in medicine, pharmacy, nursing, dentistry, and veterinary fields. The study emphasises the need for comprehensive education on antimicrobial stewardship to combat antimicrobial resistance and its environmental impacts.

The research reviewed 144 articles and highlighted the necessity for interdisciplinary education and awareness of antimicrobial stewardship beyond just resistance, focusing on responsible use, disposal, and environmental contamination. The findings aim to inform planetary health curriculums and improve healthcare practices globally.
