Drug harm reduction and education

At Monash University, researchers are tackling drug-related health issues with a focus on harm reduction and education:

Associate Professor Jennifer Schumann from the Department of Forensic Medicine led a national study on drug-related deaths at music festivals, advocating for harm reduction strategies and policy shifts.
The Opioid Safety Toolkit, developed by Monash University with Painaustralia and the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia, aims to reduce opioid overdoses through consumer education.
Dr Justin Turner from the Centre for Medicine Use and Safety demonstrated the effectiveness of educational brochures in reducing opioid doses and mortality in Canada.
