Monash University international student wins top honours

Monash University international student Lara Salaysay, originally from the Philippines, won the International Student of the Year - Higher Education Award and the International Student of the Year - Premier’s Award at the 2024 Victorian International Education Awards. Lara, who is pursuing a Master of Environment and Sustainability at Monash, was recognised for her contributions to climate action, international student welfare, and youth engagement. Her roles included Vice President for Internal Affairs at the Filipino-Australian Student Council of Victoria, an English Connect facilitator at Monash, and a Multicultural Bay Ambassador for the Port Phillip EcoCentre.

Another Monash student, Ayushi Daga from India, was nominated for her volunteer work, including support during the Grampians wildfires, and her advocacy for mental health and inclusivity.

These achievements highlight the impact of international students in the Victorian community and underscore Melbourne's reputation as a leading educational hub.
