Maternal health and contraceptive care
Monash University researchers are addressing gender-specific health needs and improving maternal health through two key studies:
A study led by Sarmitha Kodavaluru, under the supervision of Dr Sharon James and Professor Danielle Mazza from the SPHERE Centre of Research Excellence, highlights the challenges Australian mothers face in accessing care between pregnancies, crucial for preventing health issues like gestational diabetes and hypertension.
Another study, led by Jenna Perkins under the supervision of Dr Jessica Botfield, focuses on improving contraceptive care for mothers of newborns, emphasising the importance of early access to contraception information and services postnatally.
