Mr Leigh Petschel

Mr Leigh Petschel is the Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President at Monash University.

He oversees the financial management, business strategy, funding and investments of the domestic and international operations of the University.

Leigh is an accomplished business leader, credentialed across geographies, disciplines and cultures. He has extensive experience in the financial management of large complex organisations, numerous and successful mergers and acquisitions, and delivering innovation and business transformation programs.

Prior to joining Monash University he was a General Manager and Vice President with Transurban in Australia and North America, leading finance, operations, innovation and new market expansion. Mr Petschel brings a strong global perspective having spent time in the US, Canada and the UK.

Mr Petschel’s experience combines leadership and strategic thinking in cross-cultural settings, capital strategy and advancement of external relations with investment communities and partnerships with industry and government. He has held executive roles in a range of large organisations and is an experienced director across a variety of board positions.

His qualifications and professional accreditations include a Bachelor of Commerce from The University of Melbourne; Chartered Accountant (CAANZ); and he is a graduate and member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Leigh spends plenty of time outdoors, engaging in community sport with his children and trying to find a more regular pickleball game.
