Respect at Monash Advisory Committee

Established in 2017, the Respect at Monash Advisory Committee is an expert advisory committee responsible for providing best-practice and evidence-based advice on matters related to the prevention and response of sexual harm and gender-based violence for students and staff.

Reporting

The Committee reports into the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee.

Terms of reference

The Committee shall:

  • Provide advice and direction on strategies and initiatives implemented by the University to prevent and respond to sexual harm and gender-based violence in our campuses, workplaces and delivery locations.
  • Make recommendations regarding best practice and evidence-based strategies and initiatives to prevent sexual harm and gender-based violence within the Monash community.
  • Stay informed of disclosures and reports, including trends or patterns, of sexual harm at the University in order to guide prevention initiatives.
  • Work closely with the University’s affiliated college and offshore campuses to ensure a whole-of-community approach and commitment to preventing and responding to sexual harm and gender-based violence.
  • Publicly report on the University’s prevention initiatives, as well as publishing annually the reports the University has received of an alleged sexual harm (subject to legal constraints).
  • Provide regular updates to the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee and the President and Vice-Chancellor, and seek guidance and advice where appropriate, on all strategies, initiatives, policies, procedures and guidelines developed and implemented to monitor, respond to and reduce the prevalence of sexual harm and gender-based violence. This includes the Strategic Commitment to Gender-based Violence and Sexual Harm Prevention and Response, and any corresponding action plans.
  • Practice integrity and respect, and in line with the values and ethos of the University’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Framework and commitment to the prevention of sexual harm and gender-based violence.
  • Participate in regular meetings, and in the completion of actions arising where required.
