We acknowledge that individuals have many facets that make up their identity and that if we focus on ending disadvantage through only one lens, we will miss the transformative nature of compounding discrimination. Accordingly, in our EDI practice, we seek to consistently apply an intersectional lens.
Our focus is on caring for and supporting members of the University community through understanding the diversity of individuals’ lived and living experiences of disability. This means not taking a one-size-fits-all approach, and instead listening and ensuring we work meaningfully to respond to the diverse realities of students, staff and community members who engage with Monash.
It is important that every member of the Monash community, whether they be students, staff or other partners and collaborators, is committed to the values of accessibility and disability inclusion, no matter where in the world they are, and making the University a more inclusive place.
We recognise that our knowledge and understanding of accessibility, disability and inclusion is developing, and will continue to evolve. We commit to using extensive and dynamic methods for listening, monitoring, evaluating and improving our practices to advance access and inclusion.
