The overarching purpose of the Disability Project Group is to develop an action plan to further enhance the University’s inclusivity and accessibility for persons with disabilities. The purpose of the Action Plan will be to encourage, recognise and promote an active commitment to eliminating disability discrimination, to promote the recognition of the rights of people with disability and to strive to foster an inclusive environment for people with disability and a sense of belonging. The Action Plan will have clear University-wide actions and KPIs, and will align with the University’s intersectional Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Framework 2022 - 2030.
The Disability Project Group will:
- Provide the University with strategic advice and informed direction on accessibility and inclusion in regard to disabilities and carer related initiatives, policies and procedures, and issues that may affect staff and students who experience disability, ongoing health conditions or who are carers.
- Take a whole of University approach including research, education and professional staff, undergraduate, postgraduate and higher degree by research students, contractors, visitors and other third parties.
- Create a platform for stakeholder engagement and information sharing on accessibility and disability inclusive initiatives, policies, and events across all Monash campuses and locations.
- Guide the University’s identification of priorities and progress in achieving targets set for building a more inclusive, safe and respectful community for staff and students who experience a disability or who are carers.
- Promote an awareness of disability and the support available via Disability Support Services for students and Monash HR for staff.
- Identify barriers to enabling and inclusive environments for members of the Monash community who experience a disability or who are carers, and identify how these barriers may be compounded due to intersecting identities.
- Take an intersectional approach.
- Oversee the development and implementation of a disability, inclusion and accessibility Action Plan for the University.
- Provide regular verbal updates, and an annual report, to the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
