About our team
We take an interdisciplinary and whole-of-university approach to the prevention of sexual harm and gender-based violence. Between 2017 - 2023 the prevention of sexual harm work was undertaken by the Respectful Communities Team, which was established following the release of the Change the Course Report.
From 2024, and in-line with the completion of Monash University’s NSSS Action Plan, the existing Respectful Communities Team will be absorbed by the newly established Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Team. At Monash, the prevention of sexual harm and gender-based violence is now captured under the banner of Respect at Monash, which will continue to be driven by the EDI Team. This organisational change is in recognition of the fundamental link between equity, diversity and inclusion and the prevention of sexual harm and gender based violence.
Alongside the Respect at Monash Committee, the EDI Team offers governance assistance, and supports Monash in delivering key strategic projects. The EDI Team also delivers a range of diverse educational offerings - including events and training programs - which aim to raise awareness, educate and prevent gender-based violence, harassment, discrimination, and abuse, within our community.
