The 2026 NSSS will soon be conducted across Australian universities by Roy Morgan on behalf of Universities Australia.
The NSSS captures students’ perceptions and experiences of sexual violence and harm to inform prevention efforts, strengthen support services and drive continued action across the University sector.
The NSSS is a survey designed to capture students’ perceptions and experiences of sexual violence and harm to inform prevention efforts, strengthen support services and drive continued action across the University sector. The survey was last conducted in 2021, and is being distributed independently by research partner Roy Morgan, on behalf of Universities Australia. Students across Australia will be invited to take part in the survey, whether or not they have experienced sexual violence or harm. Participation is voluntary and confidential.
Sexual violence and harm remains a persistent reality across Australian society, including in our universities. Every student has the right to feel safe and respected on and off campus. The NSSS plays a critical role by giving students a voice to share their experiences, driving an evidence base that strengthens support and prevention across our community. By taking part, you can help shape a safer future for current and future generations.
The survey is sent to students across the 38 UA member universities, which includes students enrolled at Monash University Australia.
You do not need to have experienced sexual violence or harm to participate, as every student voice matters.
No, participation is voluntary and confidential. If you receive an invitation to participate, your experiences and perspectives will help to inform positive change and contribute to safer campuses at Monash and around Australia.
That is completely okay. You haven't missed out on anything required. While the NSSS is sent to all students enrolled at Monash University Australia, there are some specific survey eligibility rules that mean that certain cohorts have not been included (see survey FAQs for more information). If you didn't receive an invitation, there is nothing further you need to do.

If you choose to complete the survey, you will have until 7 October 2026 (four weeks) to complete it.
The time taken to complete the survey will vary depending on what and how much you would like to share. If you need assistance or want a quiet place to complete the survey, drop by a survey completion zone at Clayton, Caulfield, Parkville or Peninsula campus during the week of Monday 14 September.
Your answers will be de-identified before being combined with the responses from other students for analysis. You can find more information about how responses will be used on the NSSS website.
Once results are de-identified, they will be made public to ensure transparency and accountability across Australia higher education.

No. The survey is completely confidential and de-identified. It does not count as a formal report or disclosure to Monash or the police.
