Ally Network

The Ally Network supports staff and students at Monash who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and gender diverse, intersex, queer and questioning, asexual and aromantic, plus other related identities (LGBTIQA+). Allies take a proactive stance against discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and intersex status. They help cultivate an inclusive culture on campus.

Become an Ally at Monash

Complete the training to enhance your understanding of all aspects of the LGBTIQA+ community and build your skills as an effective ally. Once you have completed both parts of the training, you will receive an invitation to join the network.

Part 1 - Queer 101

Queer 101 is an online module about sex, gender and sexuality. You'll learn about the community and empower yourself to make positive change for LGBTIQA+ people.

Part 2 - LGBTIQA+ Ally training

After completing Queer 101, take your knowledge further with our two-hour skill-building workshop on being an effective ally to the LGBTIQA+ community.

Being an Ally

Your key role as an active and visible ally is to advocate for LGBTIQA+ inclusion for all staff and students at Monash. This can include:

• having an understanding of terminology
• correcting destructive myths and negative stereotypes
• calling out inappropriate behaviour and derogatory comments
• sharing what you have learned with others
• displaying symbols of inclusion (eg. Ally Network postcards, pins)

As an ally, you’ll have opportunities for further professional development in LGBTIQA+ inclusion. You will also be listed on our ally membership list to show your support for the LGBTIQA+ community at Monash.
