VC visits Indonesia
Monash President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Margaret Gardner AO, led a focused visit to Indonesia from 10-13 April 2017 demonstrating the importance of our bilateral connections. The purpose of the visit was to connect with leaders from university and government across education and research, engage industry, launch the Global Leaders Network with alumni, and highlight the work of the Monash Indonesia Representative Office (MIRO). In the Vice Chancellor’s first visit to Indonesia in her Monash capacity, she reinforced our longstanding legacy and vibrant future focus with Indonesia through drawing on existing alumni and friends and tapping into innovative and dynamic entrepreneurs and thinkers.
On 10 April Monash was privileged to hold an event that celebrated research and education collaborations, hosted by RISTEKDIKTI (the Ministry of Research Technology and Higher Education). The Director General of Resources, Professor Ali Ghufron Mukti and Director General of Institutional Affairs, Professor Patdono Suwignjo officiated the event. During the event members of Monash leadership shared ideas on models of internationalisation with senior academic leadership across Indonesia, including several Rektors and Vice Rektors of leading institutions. Indonesia leadership represented breadth across the archipelago, from Aceh to West Timor. The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between RISTEKDIKTI, Monash and Monash Malaysia was the capstone of the day. This MOU represents a formalisation of our ongoing commitment to provide enhanced opportunities for academic upskilling and collaborative research, including co-publications and contributing to key priorities of the Indonesian Government.
The following day, the Vice-Chancellor hosted an industry lunch gaining invaluable insights from an interesting and diverse group of new and existing associates. The lunch showcased the variety and dynamism of approaches to contributing to national growth in Indonesia. Individual meetings were also arranged to strengthen our MRT and Kalbe Farma collaborations. We are eager to advance our reciprocal goals and continue to deepen our Indonesian engagement.
Professor Abid Khan, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Global Engagement) said “MIRO is currently facilitating a number of exciting initiatives. Having the Vice-Chancellor present, enabled her to articulate a vision for future collaboration. We will work to broaden our networks across Indonesia to more effectively engage the academy and translate outcomes into industry.”
