Monash University and Ho Chi Minh City deepen collaboration for research and educational impact in the Vietnamese community

Monash University recently welcomed a high-level delegation from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, with representatives from the city government and the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT), further strengthening its commitment to global engagement. The visit focused on expanding partnerships in smart city development, transportation systems, and mRNA technology and culminated in the signing a renewed university-wide MoU.

Building on the successful collaboration between Monash's Institute of Transport Studies (ITS) and the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, a second MoU was signed between Monash Faculty of Engineering and the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transportation. This MoU aims to enhance cooperation in academic training and technology transfer to support the management and operation of Ho Chi Minh City's Intelligent Transport Systems. This continued partnership exemplifies Monash's dedication to addressing real-world challenges, contributing to the well-being of communities, and advancing urban planning and management through cutting-edge initiatives. This partnership exemplifies Monash's dedication to globally engaged research excellence, with over 360 co-published articles with Vietnamese researchers in the past six years.

Monash University's reputation in Vietnam for providing a world-class education continues to attract a growing number of students, with enrollments from Vietnam increasing by 34% over the past five years. This diverse student body enriches the learning environment, promoting cross-cultural dialogue and understanding. Furthermore, Monash's 27 active agreements with Vietnamese institutions ensure a sustainable and mutually beneficial partnership that supports student mobility and academic exchange, contributing to a more equitable and inclusive global education landscape.

This visit marks a significant step in Monash's ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with Vietnam. It demonstrates a commitment to positively impacting the Indo-Pacific region through mutually beneficial partnerships and knowledge exchange.
