A brilliant result rewarded with a Monash scholarship

Yesterday's release of the 2013 VCE results has seen Victoria’s highest achieving Year 12 students presented with a scholarship worth up to $70,000 for the duration of their course to study at Monash University in 2014.
Students were presented with their scholarship offers at an exclusive ceremony held in Melbourne yesterday. It included 32 students who achieved a perfect Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) of 99.95.
The scholarships, part of the Sir John Monash Scholarship Program, have been designed to reward achievement. The University has created some of the scholarships specifically for those whose financial or personal circumstances might otherwise restrict their participation in a Monash education.
More than 560 students with ATARs over 98 received a scholarship offer yesterday, together with a further 1822 VCE graduates who also received scholarships and bursaries under the many Monash University Scholarship programs. Monash will continue to offer scholarships through January.
Monash University Provost and Senior Vice-President, Professor Edwina Cornish said the awarding of the scholarships was recognition of an exceptional group of young Victorians for their dedication to their studies and academic ability.
“Their outstanding ATAR results demonstrate their willingness to set bold goals and their drive to achieve them,” Professor Cornish said.
“The University’s scholarship program forms just one component of our commitment to providing high-quality educational opportunities to all our students.
“We are pleased to be able to support students who have excelled with one of the most comprehensive and generous scholarship programs ever offered in Australia. The scholarships reward academic excellence and provide opportunity, ensuring Monash remains a truly equitable and inclusive university.”
Earlier yesterday Professor Cornish met with a number of students to congratulate them on their results and to present them with their scholarships. Eligible students were advised of their scholarship offer Monday morning.
Demand for Monash University courses has remained strong in 2013, with Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) data showing 21 per cent of Victorian school leavers chose Monash as their first preference for study, the highest market share of any university.
“Students are selecting Monash because it offers a world-class education experience. They recognise high-quality teaching and resources which provide a solid foundation for achieving their goals,” Professor Cornish said.
