An original, substantial and distinguished contribution to knowledge in the field of education has seen Professor John Loughran, Dean, Faculty of Education gain his Doctor of Letters (DLitt).

A Doctor of Letters is awarded to an applicant on review of their publications that have appeared in the form of books or papers in scholarly journals that are then presented in the form of a thesis.

Professor Loughran submitted his work, Developing a Pedagogy of Teacher Education; understanding teaching and learning about teaching, which looks at the development of teacher educators' knowledge and the way that this is influenced and developed through teaching in teacher preparation, and researching beginning teaching and professional development.

“I received an award for my work in 2007 and this was the catalyst to pursue my application for a Doctor of Letters,” Professor Loughran said.

“It was a privilege to have my work so positively assessed by three of the most influential leaders in teacher education in the world,” Professor Loughran said.
