With ATARs soon to be released and VTAC Change of Preference now open, a new online tool has been developed by Access Monash to help prospective students understand how an application for the Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) can make a difference to their likelihood of being offered a place at Monash.

SEAS is designed to recognise the impact various forms of disadvantage can have on students’ academic results at school education and hence their ATAR. SEAS consideration adjusts students’ ATAR to more accurately reflect their capacity to succeed in higher education.

The SEAS Estimate Calculator provides applicants with an estimate of the adjustment to their ATAR based on information about their special circumstances that they enter into the Calculator. This should help students to make more informed choices and decisions regarding course preferences at change of preference time.

The ATAR is a quite good predictor of success at University. However, Monash research shows that taking factors such as educational and financial disadvantage, geographical location and personal or cultural factors into account in the selection process actually improves the accuracy of the ATAR in predicting success at Monash.

Monash Directions 2025 states that 'the very best [students] will be admitted to Monash irrespective of their means and circumstances’. SEAS helps us to do this by identifying academically capable students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The SEAS Estimate Calculator is the first online tool of its kind available to University applicants, with Access Monash proud to be leading the way.

The SEAS Estimate Calculator can be found at the SEAS website.
