AIEC - Shaping global education in 2012

The Australian International Education Conference is under way in Melbourne and this year Monash is a key sponsor and participant of the international event.
The conference brings together education sectors to discuss issues related to the international education industry, industry best practice and innovations in student recruitment, institutional relationships and partnerships, transnational education, student mobility and servicing international students.
Monash is a platinum sponsor of the conference that aligns the University with its longstanding leadership in international education and its expanding presence in the Asian region.
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ed Byrne will present at the conference alongside the University of Warwick Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nigel Thrift (via video) and Mr Ken Sloan, Registrar, University of Warwick on the Monash Warwick Alliance.
Professor Byrne will use the opportunity to discuss the success of the Alliance - a world first.
"It is different from our other international ventures not just in scale, but in kind. The idea is that our two universities shall be connected at every level, that we draw upon each other's strengths, and offer each other’s students international learning opportunities," Professor Byrne said.
"Although it is less than a year old, and much of the detail is still being ironed out, the alliance is already proving fruitful.
"The alliance has already attracted significant funding, including seven Joint Strategic Funding Initiative grants, a grant from the EPSRC under its 'Building Global Engagements' program to build connections in the physical sciences, and a grant from the Australian Government to support student mobility," Professor Byrne said.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor Adam Shoemaker, Professor Greg Barton, Dr Judy Williams, and Sunny Yang, Director, Office of Future Students will also present at the conference.
Monash Abroad’s International Education Coordinator, Sarah Argles has won the inaugural Tony Adams Scholarship for Professional Development awarded at this year’s Australian International Education Conference (AIEC).
Ms Argles received her award at the conference this morning.
The Tony Adams Fund aims to continue the work of Professor Tony Adams, who was a revered leader and highly regarded mentor to many people working in international education. He was also the International Education Association of Australia’s Foundation President.
"I am very excited to have been awarded the scholarship. I plan to use the scholarship to travel to Boston and learn about hosting returned student events for students that studied overseas and leading professional groups,” Ms Argles said.
“Since I chair the Victorian Universities Exchange Group, the work I will do while using the scholarship will not only benefit Monash but mobility professionals around Melbourne and Australia.”
The Australian International Education Conference is being held at the Melbourne Conference and Exhibition Centre through until Friday.
