More than 200 of the University’s highest achieving students were inducted into the Monash Chapter of the Golden Key International Honour Society at a recent ceremony.

The Golden Key New Member Reception Ceremony, held at the Alexander Theatre on the Clayton campus, served as a welcome for new Monash Golden Key (MGK) members, all of whom are within the top 15 per cent of their faculty.

Jo Heighway, the 2011 Telstra Young Business Woman of the Year and Director of ENGAGE Super Audits, delivered the keynote speech and encouraged new members to follow their passions when making decisions about their careers.

“I have no doubt that MGK is a pathway to help you unlock that passion and ultimately achieve your full potential to make your society a better place to live in,” Ms Heighway said.

Fellow honorary member Melodie Potts Rosevear, founder and CEO of Teach for Australia, also made a strong impression on new members with her experience of starting her own social enterprise addressing educational disadvantage in Australia.

Carmen Yan, a postgraduate bioethics student and new MGK member, said she found Ms Potts Rosevear's story inspiring.

“Studying is a lifelong pursuit, and I feel that MGK gives us an opportunity to develop through meeting people like Ms Potts Rosevear. For many of us, networking and scholarship opportunities are some of the main motivations for joining MGK,” Ms Yan said.

Monash Golden Key was founded in 1996 and now operates at the University’s Australian and Malaysian campuses. The Golden Key International Honour Society strives to unlock the potential of each of its members through the advancement of academics, leadership and service.
