Caulfield Childcare Centre celebrates its 30th birthday
The Monash Caulfield Childcare Centre last week celebrated its 30th birthday with activities, an unveiling of a new mural, and speeches from prominent early childhood experts and Monash VIPs.
The CEO of Early Learning Association Australia, Shane Lucas, congratulated the centre on its long history of early childhood education. Mr Lucas stressed the importance of quality early learning environments that enrich the health and wellbeing of all children.
Director of the centre Rukmini Bose-Rahman said the celebration was an important occasion, that recognised the long and interesting journey of the centre through the changing landscape of early childhood.
She noted the governmental changes and regulations that have enhanced outcomes for children and families.
"It’s important to celebrate the history of the centre and its value, as a service to support families who work and study at Monash University,” Ms Bose-Rahman said.
Provost and Senior Vice-President Professor Edwina Cornish, who was also in attendance, congratulated the centre on its long and celebrated history.
As part of the ceremony, the centre unveiled a new mural artwork, the culmination of a progressive project worked on with the children and involving paper folding, conceptualisation of shapes, colour and image. Children took part in all stages of the project with detailed consultation regarding colour choice and titling of the work. Artist and parent at the centre Andrea Eckersley led the project, working alongside the children and educators.
Children and parents from the centre were involved in a variety of activities including African drumming, face painting, sensory activities, art and craft as well as games and dancing.
