Farrer Hall celebrates 50 years

In 2015, Farrer Hall (the second Hall opened on the Clayton campus) celebrates its 50th birthday. As part of the planned celebrations, the 2015 community recreated one of the iconic images of Farrer Hall. The original Hall photograph included Murray Wilson (Warden) mounted on his horse. This homage includes current College Head (Steve Mitchell) sitting atop his ‘horse’, while other members of the community attempt to recreate the look of others in the 1965 photo. After a little manipulation of the background (removing 50 years of development), the outcome is both humorous and a fitting tribute to the pioneers of Farrer Hall.
Director of Monash Residential Services, Mrs Trisha Prpich said the occasion is not only a celebration of Farrer Hall’s history, but also of its future.
"I love that in 50 years of Farrer Hall, we have retained the spirit (and humour) of those pioneers of the Halls of residence, and with 2016 being a year when 1000 new MRS pioneers move into the first Halls built in the middle of the Clayton campus, it is appropriate to reflect on those who came before,” she said.
If you lived in Farrer Hall at any time during the last 50 years – or know someone who did – there will be an afternoon tea event held on Sunday 22 November. The event will include tours of the Hall, and a chance to see some of the new recently-completed Halls that will house another 1000 on-campus students in 2016.
