Monash University Vice-Chancellor Professor Ed Byrne is pleased to announce Mr Paul Ramadge has accepted the role of Vice-Chancellor’s Professorial Fellow.

Mr Ramadge, an established leader within the Australian newspaper industry and former editor of The Age newspaper in Melbourne, begins his appointment this week.

Professor Byrne said Mr Ramadge’s extensive media and management experience, combined with an interest in global politics, and involvement in a number of international think tanks, will be a valuable asset to the University.

“I welcome Paul to the Monash community and am very much looking forward to working with him on a number of projects with particular reference to our ongoing success in international engagement,” Professor Byrne said.

“Paul’s experience and connections to Asia, Indonesia and the wider global community will be of benefit to us. It is exciting to think that Paul will be able to assist in revitalising and embracing a number of our existing connections and relationships,” Professor Byrne said.

The role will also directly draw on Mr Ramadge’s extensive knowledge, and experience in, the newspaper industry.

“Our academic team within the School of Journalism and the broader Faculty of Arts welcome the opportunity to share their knowledge and experience with an industry leader who has extraordinary insight into the newspaper business, which as we know, is in a state of significant change,” Professor Byrne said.

Mr Ramadge said he was honoured to be given the opportunity at one of the nation's most prestigious universities.

“Vice-Chancellor Byrne impresses me as an innovative and progressive thinker. It will be a privilege to assist him in whatever way I can and this role will also allow me to build on my areas of interest as I plan the next phase of my career," Mr Ramadge said.
