Monash University has a secret weapon up their sleeves to create an unstoppable team of leaders to guide the University’s teams at the Australian University Games (AUG).

PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) will again join forces with Monash to deliver the 2012 Student Development Program to more than 30 Monash students. The program, which was first run with PwC in 2010, will prepare students to act as Sport Managers to guide the University’s fortunes at the AUG.

With a focus on providing professional development opportunities to TeamMONASH™, the program will help the students learn to lead more than 30 representative teams.

Director of Monash Sport, Martin Doulton, said he was pleased that the partnership with PwC continues to go from strength to strength after two successful years.

“It is great to have PwC on board as part of TeamMONASH™ for the 2012 AUG campaign. With their support we are offering a great opportunity to the hard working leaders of our 2012 team,” Mr Doulton said.

“The leadership program covers topics that include personal branding, communication styles, leadership skills and conflict resolution.”

Among other skills, the students will gain a greater understanding of how different people approach tasks and work towards goals. They will also be encouraged to examine their own working styles to determine how to work successfully with their peers.

As well as balancing their academic and sporting commitments, the TeamMONASH™ Sport Managers are currently working hard to recruit and coordinate their teams for the year. They are responsible for team selections, organising accommodation, functions and other logistical elements.

TeamMONASH™ Sports Managers attended the recent 2012 Student Development Program launch event, along with PwC staff and members of Monash Sport team.

The 2012 AUG will be held in Adelaide from 21-28 September 2012. TeamMONASH™ placed second overall in the 2011 AUG.
