Movember, the month formally known as November, will see the return of moustache season across Monash University and universities nationwide to raise awareness and funds for men’s health.

The annual event has worked with The Prostate Cancer Foundation and Beyond Blue, the national depression initiative since 2003, achieving great results in raising funds for these prevalent men’s health issues.

This year, for first time, Movember is undertaking a National University Challenge. Monash Sport is encouraging all members of the Monash community to participate as part of TeamMONASH™ and seek sponsorship from friends, family and colleagues.

Martin Doulton, Director of Monash Sport, said the official TeamMONASH™ campaign which launched earlier this month was a great success, with representatives using their bright orange Movember panel van to encourage people to take part.

“We’ve already had a great start up to this event, with many members of the Monash community joining TeamMONASH™. It’s not just for men to participate, both Mo Bros and Mo Sisters can participate and compare fundraising efforts with other universities,” said Mr Doulton.

Participants must start 1 November with a clean shaven face and use the whole month to grow their moustaches, with Mo Sisters beginning fundraising to support their Mo Bros. By beginning freshly shaven, growing your moustache demonstrates how you are helping to raise funds and awareness for Movember partner charities.

There are prizes and awards on offer as part of the National University Challenge, including the Master of Moustachery, a Bachelor of Mo Cultivation and Appreciation, the Albert Einstein Award and an Associate Degree and Advanced Diploma in Mo-Raising.
