Malaysia achieves MyIX membership
Monash University Sunway campus has become the first higher education institution in Malaysia to be accepted as a member of the Malaysian Internet Exchange (MyIX) community.
The MyIX platform will give students and staff faster internet speeds and access to cloud services to further enrich their online learning experience.
The University will also have access to a peering platform to Google, which will reduce internet costs and increase efficiency.
Senior Infrastructure Manager of Malaysia Information Technology Services, Mr Rizlan Shah Azlan, said the membership was a major milestone for Sunway’s ITS unit.
“This achievement is a big thing for us, and we believe with this membership, we can truly take our IT experience to a new level,” Mr Rizlan said.
“The criteria for selection into MyIX are stringent, as all those who are granted membership must hold a high level of competency in advanced networking."
While proud of the achievement, Mr Rizlan was quick to point out that the ITS unit would not be resting on its laurels and has more projects planned throughout the year.
“In the pipeline are more private cloud services to make knowledge-gathering, interactivity and learning truly seamless and enriching,” Mr Rizlan said.
The project was led by Mr Rizlan and the Director of Sunway’s ITS unit, Edmund Turner.
Other staff members involved in the project were Network Engineers Wong Khai Loon, Adam Bretel and Paul Hii, and Network Architect John Mann.
As the University is also connected to the Malaysian Research Education Network (MYREN), it can claim to have the best connectivity available in Malaysia among institutions of higher learning.
