Mannix College celebrated its 45th anniversary as an affiliated residential college of Monash on Saturday 6 September.

In conjunction with the College Principal, Mr Sean Brito-Babapulle, the Mannix College Old Collegians (MOCA) organised a gala dinner and an historical display to mark the occasion.

The 150 guests were past and current residents and friends of the college along with leading representatives of Monash Residential Services, who were all entertained by musical performances from the current Mannix students.

Five former presidents of the Mannix College Students’ Society also attended and represented various decades of the college’s history; all spoke about the highlights of their time as college residents.

Although the memories shared were personal, there was also a strong thread of continuity of the “Mannix spirit”.

Summing up the night, MOCA President Mr Andrew Swan spoke of the funny, proud, compassionate, caring environment that characterised all stages of this college’s short history.

"It is more than bricks and mortar, there is the sheer joy of being a resident at Mannix,” Mr Swan said.

Many old collegians commented on the quality of the friendships made with other students at Mannix College and the value of those networks in later years.

At the conclusion of the evening Mr Brito-Babapulle announced the intention of the Mannix College Council to form a Mannix College Foundation, in support of future development of the College, and the wellbeing of its students.
