Monash University's long architectural tradition will be on show at Open House Melbourne this year as part of a Precinct Partnership with the popular annual Open House Weekend event.
On Saturday 28 July, 37 locations across the University's four campuses at Caulfield, Clayton, Parkville and Peninsula will open their
doors to visitors for the event. Among the highlights are the new Learning and Teaching Building and the redeveloped Alexander Theatre at the Clayton Campus, the repositioned Caulfield Library at the Caulfield Campus and the student accommodation
project under construction at the Peninsula campus.
Visitors will be invited to take hard hat tours of the 152-bed student accommodation building at Peninsula - the largest project in Australia to combine both ambitious agendas of Passive House certification and use of Cross Laminated Timber (CLT)
Monash University President and Vice Chancellor Margaret Gardner said participation in Open House demonstrated the University's commitment to public engagement with the built environment and the changing face of education in Australia.
"Architecture and human made landscapes can be transformative for the vitality of communities. Our built environments at Monash University reflect this principle, fostering cultures of collaboration, innovation, inclusion, and sustainability," Professor Gardner said.
"This year we are very proud to include the Learning and Teaching Building (LTB) at Clayton campus on the Open House Melbourne program. The largest project delivered in Monash University's history, the LTB is recognised as an international standard for transformational change in teaching practice and the student learning experience."
"Many of the locations at Monash are the work of internationally recognised architects, designers, and artists in collaboration with ourstudents, staff and partners. We are delighted to share these spaces with the broader community."
