Monash: the biography of a university

University Unlimited: the Monash Story by Emeritus Professor Graeme Davison and Dr Kate Murphy

Student radicalism, global expansion and visionary educators are all part of a new book about Australia’s largest university.

University Unlimited: the Monash Story by historians Emeritus Professor Graeme Davison and Dr Kate Murphy from the School of Philosophical, Historical and International Studies is the result of extensive interviews with staff and students.

It covers the history of Monash from the discussions that led to the establishment of the campus at Clayton in the late 1950s to the University’s current position as an international tertiary institution with a presence in South Africa, Malaysia, India, Prato and China, as well as six Australian campuses. The book was officially launched by Monash University’s Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Ed Byrne last Friday.

University Unlimited highlights the University’s commitment to the highest level of academic performance and excellence, from the visionaries who in 1957 first saw the need for a university in the southeast suburbs, through to the academics and administrators of the present day.

University Unlimited: the Monash Story is published by Allen & Unwin and is available from the Monash University bookshop.
