Monash tops Victoria in inaugural AFR Best Universities Ranking

Monash University has attained the top spot in Victoria and fourth place nationally in the inaugural Australian Financial Review (AFR) Best Universities Ranking.

Of the five pillars – student satisfaction, research performance, global reputation, career impact, and equity and access – evaluated for performance, Monash achieved a top-5 ranking for research performance (3rd) and global reputation (5th).

Interim President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Susan Elliott AM said Monash University’s strong performance in this ranking is a testament to the commitment of talented staff to education and research excellence.

“Our result in these rankings is reflective of the collaborative efforts and unwavering dedication of Monash staff to make a lasting impact on our local and international communities through the continued pursuit of excellence in all that we do,” said Professor Elliott.

“This is wonderful recognition of the hard work, passion and expertise of our staff, who continue to propel us forward and contribute to our education and research success.”

The AFR Best Universities Ranking is the first in Australia that recognises traditional notions of excellence such as research and reputation, alongside important measures of student satisfaction and equity. It uses 205 data points on each university, and processes these into 57 measures of university performance. For more information about the ranking, visit the AFR website.
