Platinum for Doug Ellis pool

Doug Ellis Pool

Monash University’s Doug Ellis Swimming Pool has been reaccredited with Life Saving Victoria’s (LSV) prized Platinum Pool Award, achieving a 100 per cent compliance score.

The pool has been rated one of the best in Victoria, achieving Platinum Pool accreditation after a thorough assessment of their skills and performance. The award recognises facilities which have met the highest safety requirements in the aquatic industry.

Director of Monash Sport, Brett Lavale, said the award was a credit to the professionalism, and commitment to excellence displayed by Monash Sport’s aquatics staff.

“In 2014, a revised and more demanding assessment process was implemented by LSV and we are one of only a short list of facilities to achieve this honour,” Mr Lavale said.

“This is an overwhelmingly positive result and a fantastic reflection on the hard work of our Aquatics team, led by Lisa Beasley.”

LSV’s Commercial Services Manager, Andy Dennis, said the award is a way of recognising those facilities that have attained the highest level of safety requirements and standards.

“The award is similar to accrediting a lifesaver, and therefore facilities must undergo a thorough assessment of their skills and performance and attain a high standard throughout,” Mr Dennis said.

“We are very selective when awarding Platinum Pool accreditation. LSV must be satisfied that exemplary levels of aquatic safety are being achieved and constantly maintained before the award is issued.”

Not only has the Doug Ellis Pool received platinum accreditation but it has also been shortlisted for the Aquatics and Recreation Victoria (ARV) Facilities Management Award for 2015.

The ARV submission recognises the significant improvements that Monash University has made in refurbishing the pool as well as the innovative programming on offer such as the Water Wise free learn to swim classes for Monash students.

The ARV awards will be announced on June 12 and the video application can be viewed at the Monash Sport YouTube channel.
