Postgraduate Supervisor of the Year award
2013 MPA Supervisor of the Year winner, Associate Professor Helen Watt with Professor Zlatko Skrbis, Sunshine Kamaloni and the students who nominated her.
On Wednesday 13 November, around 40 postgraduate students and supervisors gathered in anticipation of the announcement of the winner of the Monash Postgraduate Association (MPA) Supervisor of the Year competition.
Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research and Research Training), Professor Zlatko Skrbis, spoke of the challenging role of supervisors, and thanked the MPA for establishing the award to celebrate outstanding supervision.
Before announcing the winner, MPA President Sunshine Kamaloni thanked the postgraduates who had taken the time and effort to acknowledge the fantastic work done by their supervisors.
Associate Professor Helen Watt from the Education Faculty was genuinely surprised to be declared the winner, as her postgraduates had conspired with MPA staff to keep the news a secret.
"I was completely unprepared and overwhelmed," Professor Watt said.
"The special mentoring relationships and development of the next generation of excellent scholars is the part of my academic work I hold dearest."
The MPA committee and staff would like to congratulate and thank Associate Professor Helen Watt and all the nominated supervisors for the first-class supervision they are providing to postgraduates.
