Splash back at Monash
The retiled Doug Ellis Swimming Pool
The Doug Ellis Swimming Pool at Monash University has officially re-opened following a refurbishment project restoring the facility to its former glory.
The 25-metre heated main lap pool and the leisure pools were completely retiled over the course of the past three months.
Aquatic Team Leader, Lisa Beasley, from Monash Sport, said the Doug Ellis Swimming Pool facilities were now more versatile for Monash students, staff and alumni and provided quality community and club programming.
“The pool hosts a range of aquatic programs including one of the largest Adult Learn to Swim Programs in Melbourne. It is now better equipped to cater for the breadth of services offered for membership holders and casual swimmers,” Ms Beasley said.
The facility boasts a 25-metre heated variable-depth pool, which can be utilised for sports such as water polo, underwater hockey and scuba-diving.
“The variable-depth pool becomes very useful for those being introduced to water safety,” Ms Beasley said.
A spa, sauna and steam room are also available.
This transformation at the Doug Ellis Swimming Pool completes a suite of new facilities across Monash Sport, including the recent opening of the brand new Monash Peninsula Activity and Recreation Centre, the expanded Caulfield Health and Fitness Centre, the refurbished Clayton Health and Fitness Centre and the new informal sports zone.
Director of Monash Sport, Martin Doulton, said it was fantastic to finally have the last of the Monash Sport renovations completed.
“We would like to thank all returning patrons for their patience during all the major works conducted and invite all new visitors to experience the improvements first hand with a seven day free trial,” Mr Doulton said.
