Multicultural music programs enhance cultural awareness and support a well-rounded education for youth, a second year PhD student argues in a paper delivered to an international education conference in the United Arab Emirates.

Second year PhD candidate (Music Education) Rohan Netsinghe's thesis, which explores the understandings of cultural diversity gained through multicultural music programs has gained him a scholarship to attend the attend the 2011 Education Without Borders Conference held 28-31 March 2011 in the United Arab Emirates.

The Education Without Borders Conference is a biennial international student conference that creates networks across cultures in order to understand and generate solutions for some of the world's greatest challenges.

More than 3,700 applications from students across 129 nations applied to attend the conference and more than 700 papers were submitted.

Rohan was one of only five students in Victoria selected to attend the conference as part of a scholarship from the Victorian Government.

The scholarship included travel to the Conference as well as a tour in the UAE including a visit to the Victoria International School in Sharjah.
