This Sunday, 21 October 2012 marks the tenth anniversary of the tragic shooting that occurred in the Menzies building at the Clayton campus.

The lives of two students, Xu Hui (William) Wu and Yat Ming (Steven) Chan were lost that day when they were shot by a fellow student. Four other students and lecturer Dr Lee Gordon-Brown were wounded.

This anniversary is a time for reflection as we remember the students, staff and families who were so deeply affected by the tragedy. We also remember those whose bravery prevented further loss of life and all those who helped in countless ways to restore a sense of individual and collective calm to the University community.

To commemorate, on Sunday 21 October and Monday 22 October, all flags on Clayton campus will fly at half-mast, as a gesture of remembrance and respect.

For anyone wishing to spend time in private reflection the main space in the multi-faith Religious Centre at the Clayton campus has been reserved, from 8am to 6pm on Monday 22 October.

For staff at other campuses or who are part of the wider Monash community, you may wish to observe a simple moment of reflection as a gesture of support to those affected by this tragic event in our University history.
