An exhibition exploring the influential capacity of colour portrayed through a range of new media, including canvas, photography and sculpture will be presented at Monash University this month.

The Lies of Light, opening at the Monash Art Design & Architecture (MADA) Gallery on August 28, uses vinyl flooring and various colourations to transform the gallery space into an exploration of colour and illusion.

“The exhibit proposes to explore notions of deception and significance within the perceptive and intuitive element that is colour, and questions its context,” co-curator Ariel Aguilera said.

“This group exhibition aims to examine and question the actuality of colour via the display of divergent works, ranging from established mediums such as canvas and documentation photography through to digital installation pieces and sculptural outcomes.

“Through the spatial arrangement of these works, viewers will be asked to immerse themselves within two extreme halves of hues - one subtle and subdued, the other ethereal and bright, all while aiming to decipher the dialogue between the two.”

'The Lies of Light' will be held from 28 August – 25 September at MADA Gallery, Monash University, Caulfield Campus. Entry is free.

The opening event will be held on Wednesday 28 August from 5 – 7pm at MADA Gallery. MADA Gallery is open 10am–5pm Monday to Friday and 12–5pm on Saturdays. For further information, visit the MADA Gallery website.
