Top education honour for IT academic

Faculty of Information Technology lecturer and researcher Professor Frada Burstein was recently named the ICT Educator of the Year for her work in information and communications technology (ICT) education.
Professor Burstein, who was nominated by the Australian Computer Society (ACS), received the award earlier month at an event held by iAwards, which recognises ICT innovations as well as the achievements made by ICT professionals.
The ICT Educator of the Year award is given to Australian educators who have demonstrated excellence in ICT education and shown exceptional outcomes for students as well as employers.
Professor Burstein said she was honoured to receive the award.
"I'm passionate about what I do – educating young ICT professionals at Monash. So I was honoured that the ACS nominated me, and of course, there's the added bonus of actually winning the award!" Professor Burstein said.
ProfessorBurstein acknowledged the importance of keeping ICT education relevant as the industry progresses.
"I truly believe the mission of universities is to keep in touch with the professionals, especially in as dynamic an industry as ICT. Looking the list of innovations that have received iAwards makes me feel that there is great potential to education people who could produce even better innovations," said Professor Burstein.
"I'm very excited to be a part of that mission."
Earlier this year, Professor Burstein was made an ACS Fellow her distinguished contributions to ICT research.
Her current area of research focus is providing decision support and improving user experience on a range of devices, and developing systems for knowledge management and human interaction. Professor Burstein established a Knowledge Management Research Program at the University, where she is Director and currently leads several research projects as part of IT for Resilient Communities Flagship at the Faculty of Information Technology.
