Huntingdale to Clayton bus to stay
Monash University has welcomed today’s announcement by the State Government that the popular Route 601 express bus between Huntingdale train station and the Clayton campus will become a permanent service.
The bus service received funding of $5.5 million in today’s state budget.
Monash University Director of Environmental Sustainability, Mr Paul Barton said the announcement would be welcomed by the thousands of Monash students and staff who have grown accustomed to using the express bus service on a daily basis, since it commenced as a trial last year.
“The University actively encourages the use of public transport and the introduction of Route 601 has eased the commute for many Monash students and staff travelling to Clayton by providing quicker access between Huntingdale train station and the Campus.
“We are delighted that the State Government has recognised the success of the trial and the demand for this important transport link, by providing funding to continue this vital service permanently.”
During the university semester, Route 601 operates approximately every four minutes from 7am to 7pm on weekdays only, and every 12 minutes between 7pm and 9.30pm.
The Route 601 express bus will continue to operate on a pre-pay system, so passengers need to have a valid ticket before boarding the bus, to enable quicker boarding times and fewer delays in peak times.
Passengers can use either a Zone 1 or a Zone 2 ticket Metcard or myki tickets can be purchased at Huntingdale Railway Station.
