Monash achieves outstanding results in 2015 ERA rankings
ERA is a comprehensive quality evaluation of all research produced in Australian universities against national and international benchmarks. The ratings are determined and moderated by committees of distinguished researchers, drawn from Australia and overseas.
Monash was eligible for assessment in 92 disciplines and of these, 38 were awarded the highest possible rating of 5, including – statistics, environmental science and management, ecology, nanotechnology, immunology, clinical sciences, neurosciences, pharmacology, law, philosophy, accounting, econometrics, marketing, and a range of areas across physics, chemistry and engineering.
President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Margaret Gardner AO said the results were outstanding and reflected the depth and breadth of research expertise across the University.
“We are delighted with the results, which recognise research excellence across multiple disciplines. These results are reflective of our high calibre world-class researchers of whom we are extremely proud,” Professor Gardner said.
Provost and Senior Vice-President, Professor Edwina Cornish highlighted that the ERA results acknowledge the University’s commitment to producing cutting edge research that was internationally significant.
“We are committed to focusing our research efforts on real world issues that have wide-spread impact. The fact that we have seen a marked improvement across so many areas highlights this commitment to research excellence across the board,” Professor Cornish said.
The significant improvements in ERA ratings follows on from the University achieving its best ever result in the Academic Ranking of World Universities, compiled by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and ranking 73 in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
